A Christmas ornament hanging from a tree

Oh, the weather outside is frightful.  The Upper Midwest got blasted this weekend with nearly 10 inches of snow, and now seems like an appropriate time to turn our attention to the upcoming holiday season.

Without further ado, here’s a list of things you can do these Holidays to be nice and things to avoid unless you want a lump of coal in your stocking.

Nice: Go Caroling – Have you ever actually gone caroling?  If not, you don’t know what you’re missing.  It’s like singing karaoke, except your audience is pleasant and welcoming instead of angry and drunk.  Don’t worry about whether you’re on key, just make sure you know all the words and you’ll get the benefit of the doubt.

Naughty: Arguing with Friends – I don’t care if your friend is a putz, that’s no way to spend the holidays.  Instead, try to spread joy and happiness.

Nice: Volunteering – anyone can cut a check to a reputable charity – and don’t get me wrong, that’s a very admirable thing to do – but I’ve found it can be just as helpful, and far more enjoyable, to donate your time to a worthy cause.  Grab some friends, choose a cause you’re passionate about and make a difference.  Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army are just two great possibilities.  For more options, click here.

Naughty: Re-Gifting – Don’t burden your family or friends with the same subpar gifts someone else gave you.  The least you can do is discreetly return your gift to the store for future credit like everyone else.  If you’re looking for Christmas presents for new homeowners, our Reverse Osmosis water purifiers provide 99% pure water right at your kitchen sink.  No more sodium, no more chlorine, no more funny smells or cloudy drinking water.  It’s literally the gift that keeps on giving.  Plus, it’s environmentally friendly.

Nice: Watching a Christmas movieYou can go for the classics.  You can go for laughs.  You can even go for one of those crappy made for TV movies that ABC Family plays on an endless loop.  As long as you have hot chocolate and a warm blanket, you’re in for a good night.

Naughty: Whining about the weather – I know it’s cold, I know it’s snowy, but at least for the holidays, look at the bright side.  There are plenty of fun things to do with a coating of fresh powder.  Make a snowman.  Take your kids sledding.  Get in a snowball fight.  We live up North, if you can’t take the cold, stay out of the freezer.

Nice: Treating your family to one of our Infinity water softeners.  They provide purified water to your entire home.  You won’t just love the pure, odorless water coming through every tap, you’ll love the money you save on soap and general plumbing repairs and replacements by using the highest quality water softening system available.

Whatever list you find yourself on, Water Doctors wishes you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, even the Grumpy Old Men.
